Shot Peening and Residual Stresses influencing factors is the predominant one. In a high strength material, or in any notched workpiece residual stresses have an appreciable effect on the fatigue behavior and compressive residual stresses can enhance the fatigue strength (1,15,16).

The Numerical Simulation of Crack Growth in Weld-Incuced Residual Stress Fieldse. It is found that, in all three cases, neglect of the plastic deformation caused by the welding process appears to be anti-conservative. It is concluded that more realistic computations for crack growth in and around welds than are commonly used may be needed for realistic structural integrity assessments.

Load Induced Residual Stress Changes in Carburized Steel — Computations and Experimentsbecause of the different yield behaviors of case and core, the residual stresses may be changed under high applied loads. Here this phenomenon is studied by computer calculations using the finite element technique (FEM) and by experiments.
