Dynamics of tidal mixing fronts in the North Sea,shelf sea frontal circulation. Observational confirmation of jet-like along-front flow has been found together with evidence of cross-frontal convergence. A new generation of eddy-resolving models will help to focus the next phase of frontal circulation studies in relation to questions concerning baroclinic instability and eddy generation.

Hydrodynamics and sediment dynamics of North Sea sand waves and sand banks,ed. This result suggests that sediment effects must be considered if wave/current interaction is included in numerical models of the region. The drag coefficient for reversing tidal flows over the asymmetric sand waves is found to be larger for flow towards the steeper face, suggesting a small form drag component.

,Seasonal fluxes across the sediment—water interface, and processes within sediments,one site in the more central area of the North Sea where the water column stratifies during summer, vertical profiles of radionuclides (.Cs, .Pu, .Pb) suggested a deposition rate of sediment of 0.3-0.6 cm a., but at other sites vertical sediment profiles were unsuitable to measure deposition.
