Microemulsions: An Ensemble of Fluctuating Interfacese elasticity of the interface. Because of the quasi-two dimensional nature of the surfactant, thermal fluctuation effects are important and are responsible for the transition from ordered, lamellar structures to random, bicontinuous microemulsions.
