,Discussion Paper on the Report by H. G. Jones Entitled “Snow Chemistry and Biological Activity: A PProf. Jones has provided a thoughtful and thought provoking review of this most difficult of topics in snow chemistry. It is, and will be for years to come, the definitive monograph. Little is left to the discussant but to cross a “t” here and there or highlight a feature or two he thinks to be important.

,Chemical Composition and Fluxes of Wet Deposition at Elevated Sites (700–3105 m a.s.l.) in the EastCurrent research involving snow chemistry is performed at “cold” remote sites mainly to assess the historical evolution of the chemical climate (recently reviewed by Lorius et al. 1989) and the eventual impact of anthropogenic emissions in the last decades (recently reviewed by Wagenbach 1989).

Use of Snow and Firn Analysis to Reconstruct Past Atmospheric Composition,There is no doubt that the knowledge about temporal and spatial variability of trace constituents is crucial for understanding the interaction between climate and atmospheric chemistry as well as the effects of pollutants upon vegetation.
