At the end, we emphasise that this volume offers new ways of reading Beckett and catastrophe that are important for all of us who seem to be living in a worsening post-catastrophic state.

Slow Violence and Slow Going: Encountering Beckett in the Time of Climate Catastrophe. Using Beckett’s interest in Freud’s idea of the death drive, I suggest that Beckett’s later texts work through materialisations of attachment and dependence as a way of thinking with and living with, rather than denying or repressing, the reality of the ‘nothing to be done’.

Introduction,ckett’s work can be fruitfully discussed in relation to catastrophe as many of his characters seem to reside in a post-catastrophic world. We also claim that since the notion of catastrophe is related to many disciplines in humanities, such a discussion of Beckett becomes richly interdisciplinary. A
