The possible effect on (.H) kainic acid binding to the kainate-excitatory amino acid site is also interesting because of the proposed association of neurodegenerative disease and excessive excitatory amino neurotransmission.

Protective Effects of Ginkgo Biloba Extract on Early Rupture of the Blood-Brain Barrier in Rats the dose of extract used (50–100 mg/kg). An identical effect is observed in animals with unilateral cerebral embolism, and the explanation of this mechanism is probably related to the membrane-stabilizing effect of Ginkgo biloba.

Effect of Ginkgo Biloba Extract on the Electrophysiology of the Isolated Diabetic Rat Retina with Ginkgo biloba extract, after 2 months of diabetes the electroretiograms had a significantly greater amplitude than that observed in untreated rats. These results are attributed to the specific role played by free oxygenated radicals on the retina of diabetic rats and to the free radical scavenger property of Ginkgo biloba extract.
