The authors and their coworkers have carried out extensive investigations of vitrification and crystallization of deforming polymer melts during the past several years. Here we discuss investigations of vitrifying polymers.

Characterization of Extrusion Dies by the Stress Distribution at the Die Exit and the Free Recovery pstream in the processing equipment. The analysis of these effects is quite involved since the flow in the extrusion die is inhomogeneous, i.e. the strain and temperature history is different for a polymer element of a layer near the wall and a polymer element flowing more in the middle of the flow channel (Fig. 1).

Influence of Wall Slip in ExtrusionIt is known that some polymer melts like rigid PVC. show wall slipping properties. Although it may be immediately concluded that it leads to different velocity profiles, there is little information available on the influence of wall slip on processing in extrusion and quality of the end product.
