Bronchoscopy and Surgical Procedures for Inspection and Biopsys, new procedures and adaptations of already existing techniques emerged that are very important in cases when radiologic diagnosis alone is not sufficient. Some of those new techniques may be performed by qualified radiologists or greatly helped by a participation of radiologists in the procedures.

Radionuclide Studies of the Lungcesses. These images are complementary to conventional X-ray, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and angiography, which offer highly detailed anatomy-based images of the lungs, pleura, and mediastinum. Radionuclide studies are noninvasive, widely available, and quantitative.

A high kilovoltage technique enhances the visibility of the lungs by reducing the contrast of the bony thorax and also has the advantage of better penetration of the mediastinum (4,6). For proper visualization of the mediastinum an additional penetrated film is often required (Fig. 3.1).

Computed Tomography of the Thorax: Lungs and Mediastinum tomography, in its ability to identify abnormalities not only as changes in anatomic form but also as differences in radiographic contrast, therefore enabling a separate visualization of various body tissues.
