Radiation-Induced Lumbosacral Plexopathysonance imaging (MRI) and electromyography (EMG) are the most important diagnostic tools. RILSP causes significant neurologic morbidity. In most cases, there is very slow recovery of neurologic function over years. There is no effective treatment to date.

Medical Management of Radiation Effects on the Intestinesed using either nonendoscopic methods including sucralfate enemas, oral vitamin A and HBO therapy, and/or endoscopic methods for rectal bleeding, including bipolar electrocautery, heater probe, and argon plasma coagulation. Several preventive options are available, including amifostine, a scavenger of radiation-induced free radicals.

Role of Radiation in Rectal Cancersould be taken into account during selection of patients for radiotherapy. In addition, ongoing trials are addressing quality of life issues with modern radiation techniques and newer chemotherapeutic agents.
