This chapter presents the telescopes and the detectors used in the different regions of the infrared, together with the observational techniques needed to deal with the large background.

Pointing the Telescope: Astronomical Coordinates and Sky Catalogsesented to allow the preparation of observations at telescopes and radio telescopes. The astronomical nomenclature of objects is presented, together with the resources for finding the coordinates and the access to the astrophysical data and the literature of a selected target. Astronomical catalogs are discussed.
