Experimental Methodo measure isolated lines with an intensity of the order of 0.5 units in the scale of [18] (where the intensity at the maximum of the 802 cm. line of cyclohexane is taken as 250).* We note that even this intensity is not the limiting one, since, in a number of practical cases the background had no interfering effect on the measurements.

Results of the Measurements and 4.2°K. The temperature dependence of n is considerable over the whole spectral range; the temperature dependence of ? is only large in the range λ = 8–12 μ. In the range λ = 2–5 μ, ? varies only slightly with temperature.
