Introduction,It was pointed out in Part I that the basic economic problem in forest management is to achieve the most efficient use of productive resources. It is the need to manipulate and use the forest resource with a minimum of human activities that is the concept of operational efficiency with which this book is concerned.

The aim of operational efficiency with which this book is concerned is to economize the human activities in forestry. Human inputs or activities are manipulated to meet certain goals or objectives.
