Glial Cells of Layers I to VI,er layers frequently display small heterochromatin clumps. This is probably due to ischemic changes during surgical and fixation procedures (Jenkins et al. 1979). A different vulnerability of astrocytes within different layers should also be taken into account. In the vicinity of the nucleus. greenish-yellow-stained pigment inclusions occur.

Pyramidal Cells and Neuropil of Layer II,d basophilic area is visible (Fig. 11a, b). The apical dendrite (diameter 2.5 .m) can be traced for about 15 .m. Often both the perikaryon and the apical dendrite are associated with a satellite glial cell (Fig. 1la, b; see also Von Economo and Koskinas 1925).
