Where God divides by zero,ularity itself – the point inside a black hole where the laws of physics break down – remains the most enigmatic monster in the astronomical bestiary. But as for the other properties of black holes – well, astrophysicists have learned lots about them. The key to unlocking the secrets of black holes is to look at them through X-ray telescopes.

Does that mean it’s impossible to investigate the distant, high-energy Universe? Fortunately not. There’s another messenger that can bring information on distant high-energy sources: the neutrino.

Far as human eye can see, while astronomers had few clues to help them answer these questions. The mystery of gamma-ray bursts is not yet solved – but a succession of orbiting gamma-ray telescopes is pointing the way towards a solution.

The cosmic-wide web, matter in the Universe remains something of a mystery. Recently, however, astronomers have discovered hints of the presence of a cosmic web – and it seems that this web is where the missing matter resides. The key to this discovery has been the ultraviolet telescope.

Other Earths,nets exist – are there planets out there with roughly Earth’s mass, containing liquid water, and that might, just might, support life? Perhaps the next generation of optical telescopes will answer this age-old question.
