Typical DVM (Digital Voltmeter) Design,ce. A variety of signal ranges can be selected, and both ac and dc signals can be measured. Some designs are battery-driven and portable, other are mains-driven and desk-mounted. Digital instruments offer the advantage of much higher input impedances compared with their analogue forerunners, for example the ‘Avometer’, for voltage measurements.

Microcomputer Architecture,The generalised construction of a microcomputer is illustrated in figure 1.1. The CPU (Central Processor Unit) is normally a single IC (integrated circuit) and is named the ‘microprocessor’. It generates three buses, or groups of signal conductors, as follows:
