Application of the ‘snapshot’ methodology to a basin-wide analysis of phosphorus and nitrogen at sta sources and loads from the tributaries as well as the retention capacity by self-purification or sedimentation of the different phosphorus and nitrogen forms in the various sections of the S?re river. The results illustrate the utility of the ‘snapshot’ sampling as an important tool for an integrated watershed management.

Modelling nutrient fluxes from source to river load: a macroscopic analysis applied to the Rhine andore concluded that the model can be used to predict the effect of changes in nutrient sources (e.g. reduction of livestock numbers, further improvement of waste water treatment plants etc.) on the average annual nutrient loads of the rivers Rhine, Elbe and their main tributaries.
