Secondary Magnetic Properties,preferred orientation for the magnetization with respect to the crystal axes, are relativistic effects resulting from the combined effects of spin-orbit coupling and magnetism. Other secondary magnetic phenomena including magneto-optics and magneto-elastic coupling also arise from a relativistic description of magnetism.
