Microprocessor-driven ICP Monitor: Instrumentationology which allows information to be transmitted through a single optical fiber of about 50 μm in diameter. The sensing unit, which gives a direct readout of pressure, can be made small enough to pass through a 17 gauge needle (1.5 mm diameter).

Evaluation of Continuous Lumbar Subarachnoid Pressure Monitoring (LSP) was substituted by some authors (Hartmann and Alberti 1977; Ishikawa et al. 1985). This less invasive method without perforating the skull, however, has a problem whether it accurately represents net ICP. In this communication, a combined experimental and clinical study was designed to validate continuous LSP monitoring.

Comparison of Intracranial Pressure Transducersricting its use with certain mathematical techniques. A technique utilizing cotton wicks for measuring brain tissue pressure has also been described (Marmarou et al. 1975), but this method was the least reliable of all volume-coupled approaches.

Measuring ICP in Patients — Its Value Now and in the Future?therapy is necessary. Finally, the peak ICP helps in arriving at a prognosis in the severely head injured patient; it adds confidence in identifying at an early stage patients who will die, and others who will survive with severe disability, and who therefore are in the most need of early rehabilitation measures.
