Impacts of Harvesting on Long-Term Site Quality: Future Research,on of both the inherent properties of a site (site quality) including climate, and the impacts of management on the site. In terms of the long-term productive capacity of forest sites, research needs to focus on the more specific term of site quality and, in particular, on the soil component (referred to as“soil capacity” in Chapter 3).

Impacts of Harvesting and Associated Practices on Off-Site Environmental Quality, the potential off-site effects of forest harvesting and associated practices became more apparent. This led to examination of landscape-scale environmental impacts and the development of the concept of cumulative effects [1]. Now the debate encompasses off-site effects which occur over tremendous spatial scales ranging from local to global.

Designing Long-Term Site Productivity Experiments,y, is not a straightforward task. This is true of many long-term forestry trials despite the use of the scientific method, designed experiments, and the advantages of modern equipment. Managers and researchers have frequently underestimated the problems involved in dealing with long-term forest experiments.
