,The Nature of C—H Hydrogen Bonding, of 1920. While it was realised even then that certain groups containing hydrogen atoms show a propensity for forming weak bonds with electron-rich groups on the same or another molecule, the mechanism of formation of this bond has proven to be a considerable challenge.

sp Carbon,—C bond moment of 3.80 × 10. C m [187, 371] (hydrogen positive). Hence, end-to-end interaction of HCN molecules is to be expected. The resultant C≡N bond length, 115.3 pm [319], is nearly identical to that for other nitrile bonds [175].
