Glycoconjugates,ific protein or oligosaccharide structures. But whereas proteins are usually thoroughly discussed in chemistry and biochemistry courses, carbohydrates and glycoconjugates are only briefly (and it seems reluctantly) mentioned. A brief survey of the structures and properties of this substance class is therefore appropriate.

Biosynthesis of Glycoconjugates,l not be discussed in this book. Little attention is paid, however, to the biosynthesis of glyco- conjugates. Since these substances are of pivotal importance for blood group serology, the formation of glycoconjugates will be discussed below in detail.
