Radar Detection of Hailail, and of deducing reflectivities and attenuations by dual radar measurements at attenuating wavelengths is recommended. Methods of hail detection by measurement of circular depolarization ratio suffer from the effects of propagation through the anisotropic medium constituted by precipitation particles.
