In this chapter I introduce his ontology of the harmonious universe and the place of human beings in it. Ouspensky’s ., Gurdjieff reportedly distinguishes “black magic” from “white magic” by one prominent feature, that the black magic (which he regards as possibly being altruistic, like white magic) has a tendency to “use people for some, even best of aims, .” (1949:227).
