Gene cloning in fungi and plants, cell wall. The spheroplasts, so produced, can be maintained in isotonic solutions of sorbitol and DNA uptake can be promoted by the addition of polyethylene glycol. The cell wall regenerates if the treated spheroplasts are plated in 3% agar.
