The chapter concludes that if we want a socially just society in which no group or class of people oppresses any other group, education was (and is) a space for change.

Perspectives and Debates Since the 1970sand abuse in schools and universities highlighted a culture of sexual harassment, abuse, misogyny and assault. Earlier studies identified this state of affairs, led often by feminists and pro-feminists who suggested rethinking traditional masculinities offered a space for change, while highlighting the intersectionality of disadvantage.

Women in Teachinges held partially responsible for the ‘failure’ of boys. Teachers’ talk was of the emotional labour underpinning the meaning of teaching, how they wanted/want to make a difference to children’s lives, to be professional and caring.
