Middle Atmosphere Dynamics and Compositionstratosphere temperatures are cooler than at middle latitudes and that mesopause temperatures are warmer during the darkness of winter than during the continual sunlight of summer. We will see that the additional physics needed to explain these features involve the dynamics of the middle atmosphere.

Polar Cap Optical Emissions Observed from the ISIS2 Satelliteet which limit the quantity of useful data. Nevertheless, there have been a sufficient number of satisfactory observations to allow the characteristic features of high latitude emissions to be identified. In the sections that follow, a summary of results of observations of dayside aurora and polar cap arcs is given.
