Geoheritage of the Middle Atlas (Morocco) cyclotron resonance (FTICR) mass spectrometers were used for mass analysis. Consequently, alkali metal ions were exploited as chemical ionization reagents.. The role of the metal ion as a reagent has changed as the methods for forming ions and types of mass spectrometers used for analysis have evolved.
