Glutamate Receptors, Nitric Oxide, and Cyclic GMP,anosine monophosphate (cGMP) [1, 2]. A few years later, it was demonstrated that activation of excitatory pathways in vivo would also produce this response [3, 4] suggesting the involvement of synaptic mechanisms.
