In both cases, we are faced with a real improvement of the Stoner theory and these authors go one step further than the mean field theory.

The Magnetism of bcc Ironand the insulators and rare earths. In the latter case the atomic moments are associated with electrons localized on the atoms whereas in transition metals the magnetic moments arise from itinerant 3d electrons. We must therefore consider the following points:

Calculation of the Magnetic Properties of Iron and Nickel by the Functional Integral Methodsociated problem of electron motion in random fields. Some alternative approaches are mentioned. In section 5 the results of calculations on iron and nickel are reported and in section 6 some conclusions are drawn.

Many-Body Effect on the Ferromagnetism in Transition Metalsromagnetism of nickel becomes unstable in decreasing the electron number. Being based on this result, a new mechanism is proposed to explain the deviation of the magnetization from the Slater-Pauling curve in Ni-Fe alloys with iron concentration higher than 50 percent.
