Eddy current principles,s, such as ultrasonic, magnetic particle and potential drop techniques, is there is no need for physical contact with the surface of the object being tested. Thus, careful surface preparation is unnecessary (other than the removal of metallic adherents).

Miscellaneous methods,ttention in the various NDT journals probably because they are so effective there is not much demand for improvement. An important exception is the AC potential drop method, which has undergone rapid development in recent years in view of its ability to provide accurate assessments of surface cracks in metals.
