The J-Concept: Theoretical Basis And its Use in EPFM, of plasticity, practical applications are limited to the prediction of crack growth initiation and (to within certain limits)stable crack growth and final instability in structures with monotonically increasing proportional loads. Some important backgrounds of these specific applications of the J-concept are discussed briefly.

Case Studies on the Determination of Applied J-Values,xperimental results. Although practical limitations of the experimental initiation load, it appears that the (small amount of) crack growth at the end of the test agrees to within experimental scatter with that predicted from J-computations and data obtained from small specimen tests.

Numerical Analysis In EPFM,e COD definition is given. In particular the evaluation of the J-integral in three-dimensional structures is treated in some detail. Three methods to simulate crack growth are discussed: nodal release, stiffness reduction and node shifting. The result of a crack growth analysis of a three point bend specimen in 3D is presented.
