A study on octopodids from the eastern Weddell Sea, Antarcticagmented nature of suitable habitats and disturbance caused by glaciation cycles are proposed as mechanisms for this radiation. Comparative data illustrate that both the number of octopodid species present and their abundance are greater at higher latitudes than close to the Antarctic Polar Frontal Zone.

Assemblages of necrophagous animals off Enderby Land, East Antarcticaion of the continental shelf sites, 93–137 individuals of 10–12 species, was dominated by species endemic to Antarctica, such as the small amphipod . and the isopod .; in these continental shelf sites, a high degree of species diversity was observed.

While an influence of temperature on the rate of spontaneous mutation cannot be dismissed, the results show that temperature is not the key determinant of the rate of nucleotide change as has been suggested by the molecular slow-down hypothesis.

Elemental Compositions and Glass Recipeson and composition was observed. These processes led to a high build-up of materials in the sediments in the deepest part of the cove, which favoured deposit-feeding species and largely contributed to the organic enrichment of the sediments.

Diversity of reproductive features in some Antarctic polynoid and sabellid polychaetes, with a descrd for the genus .. . n. sp. (a newly discovered taxon) and :. are gonochoric and possess relatively large eggs (350 μm and 270 μm, respectively). In comparison with cogeneric species of temperate areas, the Antarctic Sabellidae have larger egg dimensions and egg brooding that seems unconstrained by adult size.
