Forest Understory Buried by Volcanic Tephra: Inertia, Resilience, and the Pattern of Community Rede as tephra depth increased, and where tephra fell on snow. Major herb species were affected strongly by tephra depth, whereas damage to shrubs resulted primarily where tephra fell on snow. Cover in 2010 remained significantly correlated with the amount of damage, evidence of the long-term effects of tephra disturbance.

Volcano Ecology: State of the Field and Contributions of Mount St. Helens Research,nterplay of these legacies with immigrating species, biotic interactions, site amelioration, and secondary biological and geophysical disturbance processes. Research at Mount St. Helens has been a major contributor to this body of work dating from 1883 when the eruption of Krakatau marked the beginning of ecological studies of recent eruptions.

Analysis of Macroevolution with Phylogenies,t volcanic disturbances created by the 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens and compared to nearby control areas not affected by the eruption. We found variable responses of different groups of lichens to a variety of volcanic disturbances produced by a single eruption.
