On Scale Separation in Large Eddy SimulationsSince the larger eddies in turbulent flow cannot reach a near equilibrium between the rate at which energy is supplied and the rate at which energy is dissipated (by the action of viscosity), they break up, transferring their energy to somewhat smaller scales.
