Schur Numbers, Geophysics and Inverse Scattering Problems, chapter we will give an introductory explanation of how Schur numbers naturally arise in certain layered medium models in geophysics. Then it is shown that computing the Schur numbers from the data (a., ..., a.) is equivalent to solving an inverse scattering problem.
