A Tunable Infrared Coherent Source for the 2 to 25 Micron Region and BeyondA novel method of generating coherent, widely tunable infrared radiation is described. The method uses a four-wave parametric mixing process in alkali metal vapors. The tuning range presently spans the 2 to 25 micron region. The possibilities of extending the tuning range are discussed.
