Endurance Limit,after fatigue tests are illustrated. The effect of the mean stress on the cyclic fatigue was measured for sintered zirconia. Unlike in ferrous alloys in other materials a continuously decreasing S–N curve is exhibited.

Marilyn P. Safir,Helene S. Wallach total fatigue life. Cycles to failure in alumina SiC composite and yttria stabilized zirconia were applied for the determination of the fatigue limit. The SiC is reinforced by SiC fibers to improve high temperature strength. The moisture in air affect the cyclic behavior of SiC deteriorating its properties.

https://doi.org/10.1007/978-3-319-00293-4e changes. Thermal fatigue cannot be prevented, but there are ways to prevent failure due to thermal fatigue. Avoiding temperature fluctuations in particular during shutdown and start-up of a component can help to prevent thermal fatigue.
