Structure and Dynamics of Supercooled Fluids,me-correlation functions and transport coefficients with temperature is discussed and compared with recently developed mode-coupling theories. The temperature dependence of the viscosity and coefficient of self-diffusion is well described by a power law with an exponent μ = 1.8, in close agreement with the prediction of mode coupling models.

At a very simple level the effect of the attractive part of the interatomic forces has been considered. in a perturbative way starting from the properties of quantum hard spheres. This is instructive but critical fluctuations are very badly treated in this way and one just has a mean field theory.

We show that only about ten variational parameters are needed to accurately specify an optimized Jastrow correlation. We then give some preliminary results using Monte Carlo integration to optimize these parameters for both the liquid and the solid.
