Development of polymer science to a low energy reservoir was introduced by Carnot in 1824. This led to formulation of the second law of thermodynamics by Joule and Kelvin in the 1850s. The concept of entropy was introduced by Clausius in 1865, who in 1879 wrote, ‘Die Energie der Welt ist Konstant. Die Entropie der Welt strebt einem Maximum zu.’

Reasons for, benefits and problems of blendinge can only increase. Benefits of blending can be discussed from the perspective of material properties and economies it can bring to the manufacturer. There are a number of good reasons for blending; however, these tend to change with time and geographic location.

Poly(methyl)methacrylate, PMA and PMMA, blendslear, transparent sheets of PMA (Ulrich, 1982; Utracki, 1989a; Stinson, 1992). Since PMA is rather soft (T. = 6°C) it had to be copolymerized with ethylmethacrylate (T. = 75°C) (Salkind ., 1959). However, the main obstacle to commercialization was the high cost of acrylic monomers.
