Guidelines for Establishing Conservation Areas in Sustainable Forest Management: Developing Models ls (see .). Therefore, management of modern production forests needs special attention to conserve viable populations of endangered mammals. Conservation strategies need to be incorporated to sustainable management planning, such as establishing conservation areas within or adjacent to the production forests (Lynam et al. 2007).

The effectiveness of reduced-impact logging in maintaining biodiversity was recognized in selected organisms (e.g., mammals; Mannan et al. 2008). However, this concept needs to be further substantiated in other taxa because benefits of reduced-impact logging can be specific to certain taxonomic groups only.
