Optimization of Sample Selectionty was developed to meet this need and outlines the way in which clinical skills teaching is addressed within the pre-registration programmes. Self-directed learning, through independent access to the Skills Centre, supported by ‘in-house’ instructional videos, is discussed, as is the use of the OSCE for the assessment of clinical competence.

Introduction to Sampling in Time currently being tested. A key tool designed for formative assessment is the Portfolio, which includes a section for clinical skills learning. By adopting this approach, it is hoped that a balance between students ‘learning’ and ‘doing’ in practice can be achieved.
