Infrared spectroscopy shows that the oxygen functionality includes ketones (possibly as anhydrides) and aryl and alkyl ethers.

Modelling the Effect of Engine Deposit on Octane Requirement, due to deposit, decreases the autoignition (knock) delay time sufficiently to account for ORI. The model also provides instantaneous deposit and gas temperatures which are necessary in any attempt to determine the chemistry of deposit formation, even though the model itself contains no chemistry.
