Solvents,out most clearly by the fact that many substances exhibit their greatest usefulness when in solution. The modern solvent industry is comparatively new. It was only yesterday, so to speak, that the only industrial solvents were methyl and ethyl alcohols, acetone, glycerol and aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons.
