The Transition to Chaos in Galactic Models of Two and Three Degrees of Freedom,infinite bifurcations, or infinite gaps. In systems of three degrees of freedom, we have transitions of complex instability, or inverse bifurcations. An increase of stochasticity in the form of “Arnold diffusion” may be due to changes in the interconnections of the various families of periodic orbits at a “collision of bifurcations”.

Irregular Stellar Variability,ed stellar rhythms and certain categories of theoretical chaotic oscillations are stressed. Manifestly, at this early state of the art, these coincidences between observation and ‘simple’ theory should be regarded with caution.

A Perturbative Approach to Stellar Pulsations,ht and velocity curves. The agreement with the results of numerical hydrodynamic codes is very good and is achieved with a hundredfold reduction in computing time. The potential usefulness of the method for other types of pulsation, in particular irregular pulsation, is discussed.

Nonlinear Nonradial Adiabatic Stellar Oscillations: Numerical Results for Many-Mode Couplings,iltonian, which has no radial analogue. In the case of the ., the previous results included coupling only for the lowest radial modes, and the coupling coefficients were computed in a polytropic model. Here, radial and nonradial 5-minute modes are coupled, and they have been computed using a ‘real’ solar model.

,Chaotic Oscillations in a Simple Stellar Model — A Mechanism for Irregular Variability, a case, depending on the ratio of the dynamical to the thermal timescale, the model can exhibit relaxation oscillations, chaotic variability or limit cycles. We demonstrate the mechanism by a simple model of a late-type red giant in which the extended envelope contains large overlapping ionization zones.
