Observations on the Relation of PVA and MVO2 in Closed Chest Dogs,intenance of transmembrane gradients, cardiac tissue requires energy to support beat-to-beat cyclical calcium movement, and to allow contractile elements to generate force and to shorten. In the absence of sufficient energy, cardiac performance deteriorates rapidly.

Regional Myocardial Contraction Coupled With Energetics,ave been reported to demonstrate regional abnormalities in contraction. Global indexes of left ventricular function (for example, ejection fraction) cannot detect such regional abnormalities of myocardial contractile function (3). To assess regional myocardial contractile function, many indexes have been proposed, as listed in Table 1.

In this study, phosphorus-31 magnetic resonance spectroscopy (P-NMR) was applied to isolated perfused ferret hearts to investigate the alterations in myocardial energetics induced by VF.
