Winfried Menninghaus,Klaus R. Scherpet of the effective pain relief in bone metastases was in 1907 following irradiation of pelvic metastases from carcinoma of the breast (Leddy 1930). Since these early observations radiation has become established as a highly effective treatment for painful bone metastases.
