This chapter emphasizes the genetic modification used in metabolic engineering and their effects on ethanol production, as well as, the bottlenecks of the technology.

Microalgae have already been cultivated for a long time to produce food, feed, and other substances and can also be used to produce biodiesel, bioethanol, biomethane, and biohydrogen as alternatives for fossil resources.
