The Arachidonic Acid Cascade and Erythropoiesis, and pathologic functions. They are formed from the oxygenation of arachidonic acid, a polyunsaturated fatty acid containing 20 carbon atoms, and are therefore more generally termed “eicosanoids,” from the Greek word for 20.
