The Co-benefits of Renewable Energy Policies in Japan: Barriers and Ways Forward needs. Rather, the growing threats of climate change have generated a pressing need to shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy. Such a shift is not only essential to mitigate climate change but can lower electricity prices, boost the energy self-sufficiency rate, create jobs, reduce local air pollution, and improve health.
