Oncology: Biochemists’ PerspectiveSuperconducting Magnetic Energy Storage (SMES) has potential as a viable technology for use in electric utility load leveling. The advantage of SMES over other energy storage technologies is its high net roundtrip energy efficiency. This paper reports the major features and costs of a 5000 MWh SMES plant design.
